Spiral staircases have always fascinated me for some reason. The only one I encountered in real life is in the library basement of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. I loved descending into those really ancient stacks, feeling as if I was in a different world. Naturally, I love the one in "The Haunting" (1963) though I'm glad that my real-life one was (is still I suppose) much sturdier and not likely to sway.
