One of the many variants of the successful Sword Class, the Firestorm combines the maneuverability of an escort-sized warship with the firepower of Lance armaments.

The Firestorm is based on the hull of a Sword Class frigate, but its laser batteries have been reworked to direct laser power towards a single, massive starship-grade lascannon.

Often, s support Sword and Cobra Class Destroyers in independent squadrons. When the other two classes have lowered the enemy's shields, it falls to the Firestorms to deal damage to enemy capital ships.

Firestorm frigates are also found in the fleets of the Legiones Astartes. Because of the mobile nature of the Legions, these Firestorms are equipped with two interconnected Gellar Fields. Should one fail, the other will continue to protect the ship from the tides of pure cannot-be of the Warp. Many of these frigates have been heavily automated.

At the end of the Great Crusade, many firestorms had been replaced by the faster Nova Class Frigate in Legion service and had been relegated to second-line duties.

Shown here are the Firestorm frigate Kiku (菊), Of the 11th Legion. The Kiku served with distinction within the 11ths combined fleet with a dozen kills to her name before being transferred to the Coreward Commandery.
