Gross National Product (GNP)

  • This is the metric used to measure a country's economic output that is produced by all the citizens of a country regardless of their location.

  • It represents how its nationals are contributing to the country's economy.

  • In order to calculate the GNP, you must add the same components above along with the net income by domestic residents and businesses from overseas investments, then subtract it from the net income earned by foreign residents and businesses from domestic investment.

Individual concept of wabi sabi:
  • Wabi is about recognizing beauty in humble simplicity. ~detach from the vanity of materialism so we can experience spiritual richness instead~
  • Sabi is concerned with the passage of time, the way all things grow, age, and decay, and how it manifests itself beautifully in objects.

Together, these two create the philosopical approach-

Accept what is, stay in the present moment, and appreciate the simple, transient stages of life.

The composer William Basinski’s ambient masterwork “The Disintegration Loops,” created from disintegrating magnetic tape, became synonymous with 9/11. When he made it, his own life was falling apart. https://t.co/RqW0TDaY6n

Quizzes: The Local Affair

Small-scale quiz events were often staged in the 1940s by women at various pubs, as a deterrent for their husbands. Many pubs drew on this pastime and organized quizzes to draw consumers in the '80s.

The appeal for a public question and answer session is so widespread that in 2019, more than half of the 40,000 odd pubs in the UK ran quiz leagues on local and national levels.

Slow Living Consumer Trend

The trend of slowing down and doing things at a more leisurely pace is not new to history. It has been in the past and we can see it today.

The slow living trend is not just about the way people live their lives, but also about how they consume products.

Slow living can be seen as a reaction to the fast-paced society that most of us live in today. By adopting this lifestyle, consumers are able to take back control of their lives and enjoy things at a slower pace.

Misery

Glistening streams silently fall,
Upon broken shards of suffering.
The glass shards pierce my fragile mind,
And blood drips down my quavering hands.
My cries are so silent but shrill,
Yet no one detects my misery.
I beg and plead for someone’s help,
But they all ignore my eerie sobs.
Nothing but the rain touches me;
It can only wash the blood away;
I will always feel this damned pain.
But I will mask it with some façade.
Don’t worry about me right now,
These tears will dry and I’ll be okay.
It’s just another mental fight,
And it will all end soon enough.

Human connection

It’s so important for us to be able to communicate and forge personal connections with one another. However, it can be hard to do so when we’re glued to rectangular screens, becoming more acquainted with our friends’ digital facades than their real-life personas.
