Humans will see a shorter route between two destinations and take it, regardless of the pre-built paths. Mark Twain died of a heart attack on April 21, 1910, which is a pretty common way to go. What’s unusual is that he predicted his own death. “I came in with Halley’s Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it,” he declared in 1909. “It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don’t go out with Halley’s Comet.”

The comet’s perihelion—when it was closest to the sun—was April 20, just one day before Twain shuffled off this mortal coil.
